It holds individuals awaiting court proceedings, serving eligible local sentences or waiting for transfer to another correctional facility.

How to Search the Randolph County Jail Roster
The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office provides an official Currently Confined Inmates search. Users can view the roster in two ways:
- Sorted by the date the person entered custody
- Sorted alphabetically by last name
The system provides booking and available bail information for people currently recorded at the detention center. Randolph County states that the data is automatically updated four times each day. However, custody information can change rapidly and may not represent the person’s exact status at the moment it is viewed.
A roster entry may include information such as:
- Full booking name
- Age
- Gender and race
- Date confined
- Booking photograph
- Listed criminal charges
- Bond type and amount
- Court or agency information
Users can click an inmate’s row to open additional booking details. When searching for someone, try using only the surname if the complete booking name or middle name is unknown.
What If Someone Is Not Listed?
A recently arrested person may not appear immediately because detention officers must complete the booking process. This generally includes searching the person, taking fingerprints and photographs, entering the arrest information, conducting a medical screening, assigning a classification and recording personal property.
A person may also be absent from the current roster because they:
- Posted bond and were released
- Were transferred to another jail or prison
- Entered state or federal custody
- Were released following a court hearing
- Were booked under another spelling or legal name
- Have not completed the intake process

Does a Jail Listing Prove Guilt?
No. Appearing on the Randolph County inmate roster does not mean that a person has been convicted.
The county explains that its online information relates to the booking event and does not represent a complete criminal history or the final status of a court case. Charges may later be amended, reduced or dismissed. Every accused person is presumed innocent unless guilt is established through a plea or court judgment.
About the Randolph County Detention Center
Randolph County expanded the detention center to address overcrowding and provide more individual cells. The completed work increased its stated capacity to 422 people and expanded the facility to approximately 101,091 square feet.
Inmates were relocated into new housing units in August 2021, allowing renovations to continue in older sections. The county reports that the renovation work was completed in early 2024.
The Detention Division handles booking, housing supervision, inmate transportation, records, medical coordination and facility security. Officers also transport inmates to courts, medical appointments, prisons and other detention centers.
How Does Visitation Work?
Randolph County uses PayTel Communications for online inmate visitation. Friends and family members must create an account with the approved provider before arranging a video visit.
The availability of visits may depend on the inmate’s housing assignment, disciplinary status and facility schedule. A visit can be delayed or cancelled because of court transportation, medical treatment, lockdowns or security needs.
Visitors should confirm the inmate’s status before paying for or scheduling a session. Video visits and messages may be monitored or recorded, except where legally protected communication rules apply.
How Do Inmate Phone Calls Work?
People held at the Randolph County Detention Center have access to PayTel-managed telephones between 10:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m.
Inmates cannot receive incoming personal calls. They must place outgoing calls using the approved telephone system. Friends and relatives can create a PayTel account online or by calling 1-800-PAY-TELL. The support number for problems receiving detention-center calls is 800-729-8355.
The facility also uses secure tablets for messaging, video calls, educational material and other approved services.
How to Send Personal Mail
Ordinary personal mail is not delivered to inmates as physical paper. It is sent to an approved processing center, scanned and made available on the inmate’s tablet. The original physical mail is then destroyed.
The envelope must include:
- The facility name
- The inmate’s complete name
- The inmate’s identification number
- Facility ID 5165
- The sender’s full name and return address
Each envelope may contain no more than ten pages, and pages cannot be larger than 8.5 by 11 inches. Letters, drawings, greeting cards and ordinary photographs may be included, but Polaroid photographs are prohibited. Glitter, glue, tape, electronic elements, explicit material and content involving gangs, drugs or violence are also prohibited.
The exact processing-center address is displayed in the county’s official inmate-mail instructions. Senders should check the current instructions before mailing because personal correspondence should not be sent directly to the physical jail address.
Legal Mail and Money Orders
Legal mail and money orders must be mailed directly to:
- Randolph County Detention Center
- Inmate’s name and identification number
- 811 New Century Drive
- Asheboro, NC 27205
Legal correspondence must be clearly marked “Legal Mail.” It will be opened in the inmate’s presence. Books, magazines and packages sent to the detention center are not accepted and will be returned to the sender.
How to Add Money to an Inmate Account
Money may be deposited into an inmate’s commissary account through Team3 Inmate Canteen or the automated kiosk in the jail lobby.
The lobby kiosk is available 24 hours a day and accepts cash, credit cards and debit cards. The published fee is $3 for a cash transaction. Credit and debit transactions carry a 10% fee, with a minimum charge of $3.25.
Money orders can also be mailed directly to the detention center in the inmate’s name. They should not be sent to the personal-mail scanning center.
How to Confirm Bond or Release Information
Bond details shown online may change following a court hearing, the filing of another charge or the placement of an outside-agency hold.
A blank or zero bond amount does not necessarily mean the person can leave without payment. It may mean:
- Bond has not yet been set
- The inmate is being held without bond
- Another agency has placed a hold
- The person is serving a sentence
- Release requires another court order
