The county includes:

  • Gulf Coast beaches
  • Developed residential communities
  • Agricultural land
  • The western Everglades
  • Wetlands and conservation areas
  • Rural settlements
  • Coastal islands
  • Mangrove forests
  • Large unincorporated territories

Eastern and southern areas have much lower population density. They contain farms, ranches, wetlands, conservation land and communities separated by long travelling distances.

Cities and Unincorporated Communities

Collier County contains three incorporated municipalities.

1. Naples

Naples is the county seat and the primary centre for courts, county administration, healthcare, business and professional services.

The City of Naples has its own:

  • Mayor and City Council
  • Police department
  • Fire-rescue department
  • Planning and zoning system
  • Municipal streets
  • Parks and recreation services
  • Building and code-enforcement departments

Although county offices use Naples mailing addresses, many surrounding communities are outside the official city limits.

2. Marco Island

Marco Island is an incorporated coastal city with its own council, police department, fire-rescue services, planning functions and municipal administration.

The county continues to provide countywide services such as courts, elections, public records and selected regional programmes.

3. Everglades City

Everglades City is a small incorporated municipality in southern Collier County. It serves as an important local centre for nearby coastal and Everglades communities.

4. Major Unincorporated Communities

Important unincorporated communities include:

  • Immokalee
  • Golden Gate
  • Golden Gate Estates
  • Naples Park
  • Pelican Bay
  • Lely Resort
